Since its official launch in September 2025, the GEF8 Landscape project has engaged through its partners to roll out activities on the ground.

Mintom, Cameroon – December 2025 Environment Conservation for Public Health (ECO-ph) has completed the first phase of community mobilization under the GEF-8 Dja Landscape Project, successfully engaging six villages and stakeholders across the Mintom Commune to prepare for the creation of the Mintom Municipal Landscape Management Commission (MLMC).

Since 18 November 2025, ECO-ph has led sensitization sessions, stakeholder mapping, and community dialogues in the villages of Ebomane, Mboutoukong, Assok, Akom, Zoebefam, and Nkolémboula. A total of 112 participants, including Baka and Fang communities, women, youth, traditional leaders, cooperatives, and local associations, took part in the initial consultations.

A major milestone was achieved as all six traditional chiefs provided Free, Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC) endorsing the establishment of the MLMC ensuring legitimacy and community ownership of the future landscape governance structure.

ECO-ph also identified 28 socio-professional groups representing 921 members, conducted a survey where 112 questionnaires were administered across the villages, and extended the activity to Mintom town center, where 25 additional questionnaires are being administered among municipal authorities, CSOs, cooperatives, and State technical services.

Despite challenges such as difficult road access and translation needs for Baka communities, ECO-ph reports strong engagement and positive momentum.

Next steps include completing data collection in Mintom center, organizing the Stakeholder Forum, drafting the MLMC foundational document, and collaborating with the Mayor’s Office for official endorsement.

ECO-ph remains committed to promoting inclusive, community-driven governance and sustainable land management within the Dja landscape.
